A little rain overnight and some cooling temperatures have allowed the MNR to declare HA018 near Copeland Lake to be considered “Being Held”. Being Held means the fire is not completely extinguished; however, the fire fighting team has established a perimeter around the fire and are expecting (under the current circumstances) that it will not grow in size. Changes in wind and/or drier weather or both could change this in an instant.
This does NOT imply in any way that we can once again let our guards down. We remain under a Total Fire Ban here in Marmora and Lake and although the area around us has been downgraded from EXTREME danger of fire to HIGH RISK by the MNR, we are not out of the woods yet.
I want to thank everyone for their help in keeping our community up to date with accurate information and for those who cooperated when asked to clear the lake for a possible water carrier pickup.
This has been an incredible learning experience for all of us.
