Community Roadside Clean Up Day 2022

 What a beautiful Saturday we had on April 30, 2022 to kick off the SRI community’s first in-person event in approximately two years.  While we may have spent that time picking up garbage left by others, it gave us great satisfaction to leave our roadsides cleaner and healthier.  And it was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with new and old friends.

Our energetic and large group covered all roads:  Jennison, Jasper, Jade, Lake of Islands, Peninsula, Waite Court, Skene, Dickey Lake, and portions of Steenburg Lake Road east and west and Old Hastings Road.

We were thrilled to see young children and youth come out support this important event for our community.  Kudos goes to the son of Jenna and Brady Varty who pulled an old refrigerator out of the woods!!  

The most common culprits found along our roadsides – Tim Horton’s cups and believe it or not, baggies of dog poop!  We encourage everyone to do the right thing – take your garbage home with you.  The roadsides are not a personal garbage can.

Although Mike and Sue Stevens were not able to physically participate in our event, they did provide the trailer and the means for disposal of the found items.  A big thank you to them for helping us organize another successful event.
