Annual SRI Community Cleanup Day 2026
On May 3rd, 2026 we had an awesome SRI Community Clean-Up Day.
A record approximately 30 SRI members gave their time to help beautify our community. We even had members leave Mississauga at 6:00 am on a Sunday morning to make the clean-up start time, and others who came up from Campbellford in a 2 hour side by side journey. What commitment!
Our event started out with a special presentation by Robert Canning; a specialist in aquatic ecosystem monitoring and invasive plant biology and management, who helped us conduct a Eurasian milfoil study on our lake systems in 2025. Robert explained his findings and provided an informative presentation regarding this invasive plant and some others and their effect on our delicate ecosystem.
Following his presentation, our group split up and started roadsidecleaning of all the Shawano Roads and also North Steenburg Lake Road from Murphys’ Corners west to Nicholson Creek and from the Corners down Old Hastings Road to Shawano Trail. We continue to pick up garbage year after year; this year not limited to but including old car parts, tires, an iron!!!!, construction materials, bottles, cans, etcetera.
Thank you to Sue and Mike Stevens for organizing bags, gloves and a trailer for our event, and for arranging to dispose of the garbage collected.
